Counselling/Psychotherapy/Supervision
Frequently Asked Questions
What happens at the initial appointment?
This is Important so that we can get a sense of whether we would be able to work well together and to establish whether I am the right Counsellor for you. I take some notes of your history and the difficulties that bring you to counselling at this time and hope to promote your need to experience your voice saying what you want to achieve and trying to meet that need.

Is everything I say to you confidential?
Yes it is, but there are certain exceptions which I will explain to you when we meet.

How long is each session?
Counselling sessions are 50 minutes long for individuals and 1 hour for couples. We would meet once a week on a regular day at the same time.

What will we talk about?
The sessions are yours and I am lead by you as to what you would like to reflect on. Counselling is a commitment so it is important for you to attend regularly so that you can get the best benefit from the process.

Will you advise me on what to do?
No counselling is not advice giving. Counselling helps you reflect on your thoughts, feelings and response to your difficulties so that you can make the choices which are right for you.

How many sessions will I need?
This depends on the nature of your difficulty. I would suggest initially 6-12 with the 6th session being a review, but the choice is yours. You can see me for a few sessions or longer. In any event we would keep this under regular review.

What happens if I am late for my appointment?
I always start and end sessions on time. Should you arrive late we will still need to end on time. This means that I am able to see the next client on time as well.

What happens if I need to cancel and re-arrange my appointment?
I ask please for at least 24 hours notice of cancellation otherwise the full charge will be payable.
If I can offer you another appointment the same week then this charge won’t be applicable.
If I am away or need to cancel I will not charge you for the slot.

How do I pay?
Payment is due on the day of your appointment please cash, or Mobile Banking (Including bank transfer).

How do we know when to end?
We will have regular reviews to make sure that we are on track. It is always best to have a good ending so I try to pace our sessions so that we can have a final review.
